Matching that up with an Old Rifle Scope book, you can determine the manufacturers that go with the types of scopes, i.e. I don't have the books I need in front of me, but in Senich's book there is a sketch from a 1943 sniper manual that identifies the commercial scopes used, granted not one of the earlier sniper manuals. The ZF39s used at least a few different manufacturers including Carl Zeiss at Jena. Other manufacturers also made Zeilvier scopes and called them Zielviers in their sales literature (1935-1940). In German Zielvier means 4 powered scope and isn't a Carl Zeiss brand name. One clarification on the ZF39 and Zeiss Zielvier. Anybody else besides Vaughn ever see a high turret on a barrel dated 1942 or 1943 or removed a high turret front mount to find a BYF 42 or BYF 43 on the receiver ring? Relying on Vaughn's information, the first high turrets came out in 1942. The vast majority of high turret snipers were put together on 1944 rifles according to one book. Can only rely on what the books say and what you guys have in your collections or have seen.
